From humble beginnings to building a trend-setting business from scratch.

Welcome to East & West Alum Craft Ltd.

Back in the 1960’s, we pioneered welding aluminum railings in Canada. Making the railings quicker to cut, faster to weld and much lighter to hoist than steel.

 

We have core values you can see in our quality craftsmanship.

1960’s – Joe Zen started to weld Aluminum as railings.

1960’s – Pacific Iron Works ( now East & West) was founded by Joe Zen and Aluminum railings were pioneered by East & West Alum Craft Ltd.

1970’s – Joe & East & West Alum Craft Ltd. became an industry leader creating Canada’s first powder paint shop in 1977.

1980’s – East & West created the Star system, a snap-together railing product sold in lineal lengths to distributors that enabled the company to gain a foothold in Eastern Canada and the U.S. Yet another service developed by East & West is custom manufacturing and installing, which was used recently when the company was tagged to supply railings for new additions at the Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas and a similar project in Miami.

This letter is in reference to East & West who has worked on our project for approximately 1 years in 2022. The "Sentinel" is a 26-story high-rise consistiing of 173 high end concrete condo and 6 wood framing TH in West Vancouver. East & West was contracted to supplied & installed all aluminum guardrails and handrails for the entire projects as well as engineering. The balcony / deck on the typical floors up the tower were over size resulting in extensive and lengthy guardrails. My experience working East & West team was pleasant and memorable. We had on average 170-230 workers daily requiring constant coordination and cooperation among trades. East & West's foreman on site was very accommodating and prompt when asked for specific tasks. A rare quality in recent years which makes the world go round. The quality of the work was good; both the architect and owner's group along with ITC are very happy with the final product. The entire project was successfully completed without any safety incidents, East & West displayed a strong safety culture throughout the process. I can confidently recommend East & West and I stand strong beside them in their future business endeavors. It is my pleasure to write this letter as a token of appreciation towards East & West.

Most railing companies quickly declined to quote the project due to the complexity but East West Alum Craft was up for the challenge. East West Alum Craft produced quality shop drawings (many reviews & revisions to achieve the architect’s dreams). Once on site, the railings were professionally installed with qualified tradesmen to a high standard of fit & finish. When a problem was found, they dealt with it without complaints or extra charges.
