Transforming Burnaby: From Lougheed Mall to a Thriving City Centre

A New Vision for Burnaby

What used to be simply a mall, is now Burnaby’s iconic Lougheed Town Centre. It’s undergoing a monumental transformation, evolving from a traditional shopping mall into a dynamic city centre that will soon become Canada’s largest master-planned community.

Already one of the largest shopping centres in Burnaby, Lougheed Town Centre is nestled in the heart of this GVRD community. It boasts a 37-acre site that is set to redefine urban living and commerce, blending residential, retail, and office spaces in a way that rivals the most ambitious developments across North America.

From a Shopping Centre to a City Centre

Once known as Lougheed Mall, this site has been a central hub for shopping, dining, and entertainment in Burnaby for decades. However, its latest redevelopment is set to elevate it to a whole new level.

The extensive plans will turn it into a vibrant community that spans 16 city blocks. With over 90 shops and 26 dining areas, Lougheed Town Centre is not just growing; it’s evolving into a central hub that connects Burnaby with neighbouring Coquitlam, Port Moody, and New Westminster.

Turning Lougheed Town Centre Into Hub for Urban Living

Construction in Stages

The project’s first phase includes the construction of four residential towers that will house more than 1,500 residents. Towering over the landscape, these high-rises are designed to offer luxurious living spaces, with some reaching up to 65 stories.

These buildings are more than just homes; they are part of a larger vision that includes 1.4 million square feet of retail space and 1 million square feet of office space, ensuring that this new city centre will be a bustling epicentre of activity.

Strategic Location with Easy Access

Lougheed Town Centre’s redevelopment is strategically located for easy access to public transportation, with two SkyTrain lines converging at the nearby Lougheed stop. This makes it an ideal spot for students attending Simon Fraser University and professionals commuting to and from the city.

Green Spaces and Community Amenities

One of the standout features of this redevelopment is the attention to green space. Five acres of lush parks will be integrated into the community, offering residents and visitors alike a refreshing escape from the urban environment. This commitment to green space is just one example of how the development is designed to enhance the quality of life for its residents.

A Transformative Project by East & West Alum Craft

As the second-largest shopping centre in Burnaby, Lougheed Town Centre already plays a significant role in the region. However, with this ambitious redevelopment, it’s set to become a landmark in its own right, a place where people can live, work, and play in a thriving, interconnected community.

East & West Alum Craft is proud to participate in this transformative project. We contributed our expertise in railing craftsmanship to develop the four iconic residential towers. Our work on this project is a testament to the quality and innovation that we bring to every project, and we are excited to see how this new city centre will shape the future of Burnaby.

Our Contribution to the Project

During Phase One, East & West played a crucial role in bringing the four residential towers of Lougheed Town Centre to life. These towers are notable not just for their height but also for the exceptional quality of craftsmanship that went into their creation.

Our team expertly crafted and installed three types of glazing and applied three distinct colour schemes, adding unique character to each building. Tower Two is particularly remarkable, featuring architect-designed perforated screens that provide both privacy and visual appeal, seamlessly integrating with the building’s overall design on the East and West sides.
